Content Management System

In general there are two types of websites: ones created with Content Management Systems (CMS) and others made as static websites.

A CMS is a software package that runs on a high-availability server in the Internet. The system offers two interfaces for users: the first is the so called "Frontend" and the second view is the "Backend". The Frontend is visible to every user in the Internet - this is the public accessible website. The Backend enables users with specific access rights to administer content. This includes creating and publishing new pages, editing content, exchanging images etc.

All content elements such as text, images, movie clips, etc. are stored in a database and the CMS takes care of strict separation between content and layout. This allows developer modify the design (colours, logos, positions of elements, etc.) without touching the content. In addition the work of every author is presented with the same, consistent look and feel on every page. For large sites and a team of editors modern CMS offer an elaborate and well-founded workflow for publishing web site content. This allows the distribution of responsibilities like creating, editing and approving articles, translating them to various languages, publishing and maintaining to different team members. Such a workflow guarantees a professional and high quality website.
