About the Client

Riverina-based De Bortoli Wines has grown from its humble start in the 1920s to a top Australian wine producer distributing to the world. Now producing wines in the Riverina, Yarra Valley, King Valley, Heathcote and Hunter Valley, the family-controlled business is passionate about producing great wines, now and for generations to come.


To produce a site that communicates the heritage of De Bertoli Wines and the passion they have for their products. The site had to be easy to manage and maintain, and with core content consistent and accurate across all platforms. The large and complex product range needed to be quick and easy for users to view and purchase, as new vintages come to market and new offerings are launched.


Cerebrum works closely with De Bortoli Wines’ IT, communications and marketing teams to bring a range of solutions together to meet both their current and future needs.

The primary website is built on TYPO3, an enterprise content management system that allows for great flexibility and functionality. A sophisticated and secure permission regime restricts access of each editor to only the specific areas they need. All key product data is dynamically retrieved from a central source via an API for display and searching the site.

By creating a single source of core product data that can be integrated into other systems, it has become easy to maintain and keep this information current and accurate. De Bortoli Wines can edit and maintain all aspects of their wine range, including generating high-resolution images and PDF tasting notes that can be used, for example, by sales representatives.

Using the open source e-commerce platform Magento has allowed De Bortoli Wines to create a highly effective and satisfying online shopping experience for their customers. This is supported by a solid shop administration system that integrates with the product data source to keep everything up to date.

A range of online marketing tools such as e-promotions, segmented offers, wine club membership, discount coupons, etc., gives De Bortoli Wines more opportunities to connect with their customers. To support this customer-focused approach, Cerebrum provides ongoing training and support for all teams, and works closely with De Bortoli Wines to grow and improve the systems to meet their changing needs.
